Adrian Villar Rojas (b.1980, Argentina)

Adrián Villar Rojas was born in 1980 in Rosario, Argentina, and lives there. Besides his solo exhibition at the Louvre, Paris (2011), he was part of a group exhibition at the Akademie der Künste, Berlin (2010). Villar Rojas has participated in the New Museum Triennial (2012), and the Istanbul Biennial (2011) and represented Argentina at the Biennale di Venezia (2011). In 2010, he was artist-in-residence at The Banff Centre, Alberta.

Much of his work envisions the end of human civilization and his own life, constructing monuments in anticipation. His installations draw on popular conceptions of historical ruins, art and more, to allude to these epochal concerns. Additionally, Rojas’s massive cement creations portray both resistance to time’s decay and its inevitability.
