about this work
Recurrence is a kind of phenomenon that occurs in the everyday, which places meaning within life and creativity. Using a two-part narrative of a descriptive video, Yu Honglei produces a new discursive possibility. The first part is a subjective narrative using the artist's voice to explain his work; ruminating on how one can re-encounter ‘objects’ throughout life; and ways he can try to use his own hand – the artist’s hand – to turn these objects into art. With the second part, it at first sounds like a particular voice, but in fact has been interwoven with multiple thoughts belonging to different people. The narrative is woven using a continuous variation of voices to narrate and illustrate the validity of Yu Honglei’s apprehensions.
