Highlights

El Anatsui
The winner of the Golden Lion Award for lifetime achievement.
"perhaps the most significant living African artist working on the continent today... the Golden Lion Award acknowledges not just his recent successes internationally, but also his artistic influence among two generations of artists working in West Africa. It is also an acknowledgment of the sustained, crucial work he has done as an artist, mentor and teacher for the past 45 years." Paolo Baratta

Vik Muniz
Lampedusa is a floating installation to be launched during the 56th Venice Biennale.

Vik Muniz’s floating installation called ‘Lampedusa’ is a giant paper boat covered by articles about migrant deaths created in response to the tragedy that unfolded in October 2013, when a boat carrying migrants from Libya capsized off the Italian island of Lampedusa, leaving up to 360 dead.

In addition, during the Venice Biennale William Kentridge will be participating in 'Triumphs and Laments' with a polyptych conceived by him to be placed in Rome, on the banks of the Tiber River between Ponte Sisto and Ponte Mazzini, as part of a project initiated by Tevereterno under the direction of Kristin Jones.
